A three previous owner from new with matching numbers, 1968 MGC GT in Tartan Red, which has been fully restored with an investment, the vendor estimates, of approaching £50,000,.The vast majority of this outlay has been spent since February 2022, and most of the work has been done by a well respected MG specialist.
The body has been fully restored and Repainted, All new chrome fittings, including grill, bumpers , badges etc. The Webasto sunroof has been fully overhauled and re-covered. The car has been Waxoyled for protection. New period style number plates fitted.
The interior has been fully restored, new seat covers, new headlining, door panels, carpets, new glove box interior, new seat belts, headrests fitted to the seats for safety, a centre dash with auxiliary instruments, a new oil pressure/water temperature gauge and much more.
The engine has been fully overhauled, (it is not yet fully run in), repainted and re-fitted with new engine mounts. The carburettors have been fully overhauled with new air filters, an MG Motorsport heavy duty 5-speed gearbox kit with a longer 1st gear and new clutch and slave cylinder fitted. New 123 Electronic distributor, new alternator. The speedometer has been overhauled and re-calibrated for the new gearbox. All the coolant hoses have been renewed together with a new heater water control valve. a new oil cooler with new stainless steel braided hoses have been fitted. Stainless steel exhaust.
The suspension has been fully overhauled, new king pins, new adjustable Spax front, and new Koni Classic rear shock absorbers, uprated torsion bars, a complete "road use" poly bush suspension kit fitted, new quick ratio steering rack and ball joints, differential checked cleaned and re-filled, new wheel bearings. Brakes have been overhauled and stainless steel braided hoses fitted. The car sits on replica Minilite wheels and original specification Blockley tyres, including the spare.
The car has been completely rewired with a new fuse box. it has a rev tech twin electric fan kit, new fuel pump, new heated rear window, an LED headlamp and instrument kit, new heater motor,, new floor mounted dip switch, and the battery is now a new single 12v unit with new wiring and an isolator switch. Hazard warning lights have been fitted.
There are invoices to back up the work detailed above, and a memory stick showing some of the body repairs. What there are no invoices for, is most of the bodywork and the repaint, the 5 alloy wheels, a lot of the interior trim, the chrome and outside brightwork, the stainless steel exhaust system, the 5 speed gearbox kit, (£4,000 from MG Motorsport plus fitting), or the price of the original purchase of the car.
The car comes with a V5c in the vendors name, an MoT until July 2024, an Heritage Certificate from British Motor Industry Heritage Trust, a large folder of invoices for work done and invoices for parts, two sets of keys.
As can be seen from the above, this is an exceptional car that requires nothing further to enjoy. We have driven the car, and can confirm that it drives better than new, the 5 speed box is a great improvement over the standard item. as is the later heated rear screen, the uprated suspension, and the electric Rev Tech cooling fan. This car represents exceptional value at the reserve price, and a must, for anyone looking for one of these beautiful GT long distance cruisers.
