Alfa Romeo Alfasud Sprint Veloce 1980 offered for sale in left hand drive and in stunningly good condition. This very rare Alfasud 1.5 Sprint Veloce is one of the best seen. Having had a full bare shell rebuild, the engine is less than 2,000 miles old and the rest of the car has only been driven 1000km on top of that.
Anyone who is into classic cars will know that very few Alfasuds survived due to their infamous propensity to dissolve in the presence of the merest dampness in the atmosphere. Unless one of these beauties has had a total bare shell rebuild it will harbour corrosion even if it has lovely shiny paint. However, this car has benefitted from a bare shell restoration and has not been on a damp road since that time. So, this is a rust free vehicle.
First registered in France 1980, the vehicle was owned by a Frenchman and the history features invoices that show other addresses from 1996-2005, some of those from his ownership are from Alfa Romeo. At some point it passed onto someone else who went on to treat the car to a full body-off rebuild. Photos of the restoration start in 2015 and show it being a truly comprehensive job. The car has not seen a wet day since the work was completed. Restoration bills coming from 2017/2019 suggest that the bodywork took about 2 years. At this point the then owner fitted an interior, in excellent condition from a later Green Cloverleaf Sprint. As far as the vendor can tell, most parts that could be replaced, such as bearings, shock absorbers, brake components, fuel and brake lines etc. have been replaced.
The French ‘MOT’ is dated 11.04.2019 and despite the car being fully restored the speedometer
reading was 76,860km. It was privately purchased and imported in 2019 by a professional engineer who had his own hi-tech business in Ipswich. His working life started as an Alfa Romeo trained technician. Although the engine was running well enough, he rebuilt the engine as it was a little smoky in 2020. There are invoices in the history for parts sourced for this job. There are also photographs of the engine build showing it be a thorough, meticulous and professional quality rebuild. The vehicle was also treated to a further re-spray at Colchester Auto Refinishing, and although there is no receipt for this, there are however photographs.
The current vendor then bought the vehicle and fitted the excellent interior. They completed the paperwork to get the car correctly registered as an MOT, Ulez and Road Fund Licence - free vehicle and thus it was first registered in UK in 2021 with the registration number MKU 497W. The vendor changed the speedo at 77, 575km for an Mph one which was reading 49,657. This means that the Sprint was driven approximately 1000km since its rebuild and since the vendor changed the speedo it has been driven a further 1700 faultless miles. 14” Alfetta Campagnolo wheels which are in excellent condition, were fitted and a set of 13” original alloys are available separately along with
some other rare spare parts. They are in excellent condition but would look better painted silver. Various chrome was sourced and fitted including two wing mirrors - rare. The original stereo converted to Bluetooth was fitted and a reconditioned original stereo is available separately if someone wanted to fit an aerial. The vendor fitted a rare, original Leather rimmed steering wheel and replaced the chrome grille trim. 3 of the 4 headlights are new old stock that the vendor was lucky enough to find.
