This is a 1952 Sunbeam Talbot "90" Mark II, which was supplied new by Overdale Motors Ltd of Birmingham, and sold to Mr WB Corah of Redditch. Mr Corah kept the car for 24 years, until 1976, when it was put in a Biddle & Webb Antique Furniture sale in Birmingham, and purchased by Mr Frank Manning. there is the auctions catalogue with a picure and description of the car, and the purchase invoice, showing a price of £765 including commission, £115 in cash, and a cheque for £650.
When Mr Manning purchased the car, he wrote a letter to Mr Corah, saying how delighted he was to have bought his car, and Mr Corah replied in kind. He also wrote to Gerry Simmonds of the Sunbeam-Talbot Alpine Register to say that he had bought the car, which only had 10,480 miles from new, and to ask his advice. He also wrote to Chrysler UK Ltd seeking information about the car, and received a reply from them, which amounts to a very meticulous Chrysler Factory Heritage Certificate. The original buff Registration Document shows, the supplying dealer, Mr Corah, and Mr Manning as owners, so there can be no doubt that this is a two owner car.
The car seems to have been used sparingly by Mr Manning, as there are MoTs and invoices showing the mileage gradually creeping up to 16,649 in 1996. We have been told that the car was then put into storage and not used again, Mr Manning died and for legal reasons was registered in his wifes name in January of this year. There are some service documents as well as the MoTs supporting the mileage.
There is an invoice and some photos from August 1994 showing restoration work done on the car, which apparently included a respray in it's original colour. The car remains in very good all round condition, all the panels seem to be original, with good gaps. The chrome work is excellent, and is all present, as are all the badges, the engine bay is very tidy, and the engine oil is very clean. The interior is very good, though the carpets are original and could possibly be re-newed. The leather seats are in very good order without rips or tears, the headlining is original though still in good condition. The car is said to drive very well, we have driven it a short distance, and all seemed well..
The car comes with, It's V5c and original buff registration document, what seems to be a mint original sales brochure, a large lurication chart and drawing, the original owners manual and two other Sunbeam handbooks, an original Sumbeam Workshop Manual, and an original February 23rd copy of The Autocar, which has a road test of a Sunbeam Talbot 90 MkII inside. There are various other interesting documents.
1952, 16,705 warranted miles only, 2 owners from new.
