MG Magnette Faux cabriolet 1935
This car has been completely restored from the chassis upwards from a near wreck, restoring or replacing all items necessary, at a cost of over £50,000. There is an itemised cost sheet in the history file. Everything has been done to be as original as possible, keeping as much of the original timber frame, but inserting new woodwork where needed. This car is the only Faux Cabriolet that is known on a pre-war chassis, and is fitted with a period Marshall 87 side mounted supercharger, which helps to propel the car quickly to 70mph.
The interior has been restored to its original Art Deco form, with star burst door panels, Bakelite pull out ashtrays and octagonal roof light. The original wooden dashboard and door cappings have been cleaned and revarnished. All the instruments are working, including the fuel gauge, and the windscreen folds outwards to provide a feeling of being in an open car. The car is fitted with a battery isolating switch behind the driver, and in the "boot/tool box" there is a facility for remotely charging the twin 6 volt batteries.
This vehicle won the best pre-war Car at the Bristol Car Show shortly after its completed restoration. The vehicle has only done 11032 miles since its restoration.
