Austin Seven Ulster Aluminium Bodied Replica Special 1937 offered for sale. It is a replica of a Boat Tailed Ulster using some modern parts for safety and practicality. It is a one off and there is no other like it.
The vendor started with an Austin Seven rolling chassis, which was stripped, cleaned, strengthened, and painted. The original cable brakes were converted to hydraulics, the drums were skimmed, and fitted with new shoes, springs and wheel cylinders. Obviously, all new brake pipes and fittings, new master cylinder, and the hand brake was completely refurbished. The front semi Girling axle was fully overhauled and the wheels were shot blasted and “chrome look” powder coated. New tyres and tubes were fitted. Rear axle is also semi Gerling and was overhauled. The engine was sourced from an 850cc OHV Reliant, the carburettor was overhauled, and the engine fitted with a new clutch and ring gear, starter and solenoid, alternator and battery, coil, spark plug and leads, distributor, and electric fan. The electrics have been converted to 12v, there is all new wiring, fuse box, lights, indicators, front and rear for lights.
The floor is marine ply encased with fibreglass matting and resin. The body frame is made of wood, which is jointed, glued and screwed. The body itself is aluminium, primed and painted with 2k paint. There is new window glass, wiper motor, wipers and washers, and the bonnet is fitted with clips and leather straps. Inside there are new dark grey carpets, and the side panel and dash and seats are light beige. The car has no doors, and a step has been fitted to assist access, and there is a hood frame, though this needs a canvas. The car comes with £7,500 worth of invoices for parts and a v5 with historic tax and showing correctly that it is a 1937 tourer that has been assembled using some non new parts and only 5 previous keepers.
There is a small amount of work to be done to finish the car, the oil temperature and pressure gauges are not connected, the starter button is a dummy, headlights need adjusting, and the clutch needs adjustment as first gear is a little hard to engage and drags a little. The vendor states that this is a car built by him, for him, and he has put a lot of love into the car. Sadly, advancing years and ill health force the sale of this lovely car.
